Lent: Time to Pray with Your Hands, Heart and Soul

Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent for the Catholic faith.  It is a period of intense self-reflection, penance, fasting and abstinence -- all for the purpose of preparing oneself for Christ's resurrection on Easter Sunday, 40 days after Ash Wednesday, when everyone attains redemption.  The entire season of Lent is also a time of deep prayer...

Lent may only be meaningful to Christians, but prayer is universal.  King David fills a whole book of the Bible with his prayers in song, in the Book of Psalms.  Jesus himself wept blood and tears as he prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane on the eve of his death.  Muslims face the location of the Kaaba in Mecca five times a day and pray.  Prayer is a form of communing with God and deities that each of us believes in.  The word "pray" comes from precari, a beautiful Latin word which means simply to ask.  The act of praying is an affirmation of our relationship with God, of our acknowledgement of His existence even when we do not see Him.

This praying hands charm is a symbolic piece of jewelry capturing the beautiful simplicity of praying.   It has a woven-texture background etched in gold, with a pair of praying hands in the center.   This charm is nickel-sized but speaks volumes about one's faith in prayers and his or her God.

A perfect gift for someone about to embark in the season of Lent, or for occasions of baptism or christening.  It can also serve as a daily reminder to pray without ceasing to our God who provides us with everything.
