Elizabeth Taylor Inspired Peregrina Pearl Earrings

"I'm fortunate to have some very important pieces of jewelry. I don't believe I own any of the pieces. I believe that I am their custodian, here to enjoy them, to give them the best treatment in the world, to watch after their safety, and to love them."

- Elizabeth Taylor, My Love Affair with Jewelry

Hollywood just lost one of its brightest stars. Elizabeth Taylor died at 79 of congestive heart failure, but her legacy of love, beauty and glamor lives on, particularly in the jewelry collection she owns -- some of the most fabulous pieces in history.

One of the most notable jewelry in Elizabeth Taylor's collection is the La Peregrina pearl which was a Valentine gift from Richard Burton. The legend of La Peregrina, the famous pearl of the Spanish crown, has a history nearly as rich as the women who wore it. The jewelry traveled through Spanish, English, and French royalty before Richard Burton acquired it for Elizabeth Taylor in 1969.

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were a jewelry-loving couple, and they considered the La Peregrina as one of their most prized jewelry treasures. Burton prized it because of the history in that piece of jewelry, while Taylor adored it because of the pearl. A collar necklace of diamonds, rubies, and pearls was created by Cartier to display the La Peregrina.  A few years later, the couple's close family friend, Aaron Frosch, gifted Taylor with a pearl and diamond Bulgari earrings to match the necklace.

The faux La Peregrina earrings here capture that intoxicating legend behind Elizabeth Taylor's La Peregrina. It is crafted from sterling silver, with a bezel-set CZ ruby amid pave set "flames" of faux diamonds. Wearing this piece of jewelry will make one feel the sentiment of Elizabeth Taylor: "I knew that I wanted to give others a glimpse of the thrills and pure happiness that these beautiful creations have given me."
